haart XI  vs Regiment Fitness

Saturday the 22nd August saw a haart XI take on the experienced Regiment Fitness in aid of the magic moment’s charity. The haart office in Bedford has been sponsoring regiment fitness; a military boot camp for just over 3 months and as a result other local branches across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire have now also got involved in sponsoring Regiment Fitness in their local areas.

As a celebration of this Regiment Fitness owner Steven Nodwell challenged Barry Butler branch manager of the Bedford office to put together a haart XI to take on his regiment fitness team. They wanted to give something back so it was agreed that any proceeds were to go to the magic moment’s charity.

So it was agreed… a group of estate agents were going to take on the military boot camp instructors!!

The match was to be played at the Blue Cross Stadium in Wootton  home of the Bedford Ladies Football team, a special thanks goes out to Jill Upton chairlady of the Bedford ladies for kindly letting us not only use the pitch for the day but for the full use of all the stadiums facilities  including the bar afterwards!

The banter soon started to flow through social media from both team haart and team regiment fitness.

After a few weeks the haart XI was soon in place and the kit arrived and although having never played together the excitement levels were high and confidence growing that a haart victory may be on the cards. Equally confident were regiment fitness, who just a few days before the big game enjoyed a behind closed doors training session with Watford FC of the premier league!!

Game day soon arrived, and what a day it was the sun was beaming down in full force, on arrival at the ground the realisation kicked in for the hearty team, many of whom had not seem an 11 side pitch for some time let alone played on one, it suddenly seemed a very large pitch!!

The game itself started, regiment fitness were straight onto the attack and were soon putting pressure on the haart goal, the haart team having not played together before had to put some desperate  defending in whilst trying to get organised. Regiment soon however took the lead and quickly doubled their advantage before added a third! The haart team soon started to gather themselves and on the counter attack soon started to create some chances and soon pulled one back. However the fitness of Regiment Fitness was now playing a part in the hot sun they stretched their lead to 5-1 before half time!

Half time was welcome break for both teams in the sun, and a chance for team haart to re-shuffle the pack for the second half. The second half began similar to the first however with haart now playing a deeper back line they kept regiment fitness at bay and were able to counter attack themselves carving out a few chances themselves but were un able to grab a goal. As the half continued fitness became a major factor with Regiment adding to their goal total and eventually coming out winners by 8-1.

After the game both teams came together for some group photos and a well-deserved drink or two in the bar!!

With players and spectators all donating some money the event raised £265 pounds for magic moments. This after all was what the day was all about.

haart will continue to support and sponsor Regiment Fitness across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire and talk of a re-match has already been suggested for the new year so watch this space!!
